This Monday our class went to Nicenicz Farm. The first owner of the farm emigrated from Poland and bought this farm.They first grew apples, peaches and pears.They also harvested bush blueberries and cranberries. Now their granfsons are taking charge of the family farm.There are apples, peaches, pears, pumpkins and vegetables grown in the farm now.1).There are 17 varieties of apples in the farm.They are Brock, Crotland, Fuji,Gala(early), Ginger gold(early), Golden Delicious, Gravenstein(early), Honey Crisp(early), Macintosh, Macoun, Mother,Paula Red(early), Red Delicious, Vista Bell(early), Westfield Seek No Further, Williams Pride and Wolf River.The apples fall from the trees and there are bunch of apples on the ground.There are hundreds of apple trees in the farmstand.People are free to pick apples in fall season.The farm owners use Integrated Pest Management(IPM) for the apples, to minimize the application of chemicals.2).The farm locates at Bolten.Bolten is in the northwest of Boston.It is near the center of Bolten and on the top of Wattaquadock Hill.3).There are lots of types pf pests that effect apples like apple maggot, apple leafminers,apple sawfly and codling moth.The farm uses 25% less pesticide.They use a red croquet ball that hangs on the branch to catch pests.They use pesticides alternately.There are several types of pesticides.Chemical pesticides and biopestcides are two main type of pesticides.
